Analysis of composite soil samples STP-1 and STP-2 collected from the diesel tank overburden
Y P P (
stockpile)revealed no detectable concentrations of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and
xylenes, but revealed detectable diesel fuel concentrations of 48 ppm and 23 ppm, respectively.
Analysis of the piping soil samples ( PBST-Pl,PBST-P2,PBST-P3,PBST-P4 and PBST-P5),
collected from under the concrete vault containing the former tanks piping, revealed no
detectable petroleum hydrocarbons. All soil sample analytical results are listed in Table 1 with
laboratory reports included in Appendix E.
2.4 New Tank Installation
The new 1,000 gallon diesel tank was installed on August 13, 1997, as scheduled.
2.5 Soil Disposal
During UST removal activities, one overburden soil stockpile (approximately 200y&of soil)
was generated. Upon analysis, minor detectable diesel fuel concentrations were encountered in
both of the composite soil samples collected from the soil stockpile. Offsite disposal of the soils
was conducted. The stockpiled soils were transported by representatives of Caballero Trucking
to the Forward Incorporated landfill in Stockton for disposal. Copies of the transport documents
for the eight loads of soil are included as Appendix F.
3.0 Conclusions
3.1 Observations
The 3,500 gallon diesel UST was found to be intact upon removal. No petroleum staining or
odors were noted in the UST excavation. No detectable petroleum hydrocarbons were
encountered in the verification samples from the diesel tank or from the soil samples collected
under the concrete piping vault. The tank overburden stockpiled soils were found to contain
minor detectable diesel fuel concentrations, and were subsequently disposed offsite.
In conclusion, based on review of the soil sample analytical results it appears that no further
actions in the vicinity of the former UST are warranted.
cAsydney\pbstock.ust 4
