The report contains
two recommendations to modify the quarterly groundwater monitoring program required by Monitoring
and Reporting Program (MRP) No. 97-808.
We agree with your recommendation to eliminate analysis by EPA Method 8140 because only one
chemical was detected one time by this scan. However, we do not agree that analysis for Method 632
should be discontinued for wells MW-1, MW-4, and MW-5. The chemical diuron, part of the 632 scan,
is consistently found in wells MW-2 and MW-3. The remaining wells also need to be analyzed for this
chemical to make sure that the diuron plume is not spreading.
Enclosed is a copy of the Revised MRP No. 97-808. The Revised MRP deletes the need to monitor by
EPA Method 8140 on a quarterly basis, but does state that any new wells are to be analyzed at least once
by this method. The MRP has also been updated to contain several recent standard provisions, including
the requirement that monitoring reports must be prepared by a registered professional and that changes
may not be made to an MRP until a revised MRP has been issued by the Executive Officer.
If you have any questions, please contact Wendy Wyels at (916) 255-3080.
WENDL.
