2-080 -A Site Summary-White's Slough 2-080 -A <br /> Thomas Guide Location Latitude N Longitude W <br /> County: San Joaquin SF Bay and Delt 3805.6 12129.5 <br /> USGSQuad: Bouldin Island NOAAChart: 18661 SACRAMENTO/SAN JOAQUIN RIVER <br /> Last Page Update: 7/1/1996 <br /> SITE DESCRIPTION: <br /> This site extends from its junction with Little Potato Slough two miles south of Terminous, six miles easterly to <br /> its end, and includes the side channels Telephone, Honker and Bishop Cuts. The Slough is designated a <br /> Significant Natural Area (CDFW-NHD) and also a Natural Resource Area with Significant Habitat Value in the <br /> DMRP. The Slough is laced with channels among its many berm and channel islands which remain in natural <br /> marsh/shrub-scrub condition. Levee banks are ripped but with pockets of emergent marshy/riparian growth. <br /> SEASONAL and SPECIAL RESOURCE CONCERN <br /> The marsh and riparian vegetation here are of"A"concern year-round. Many Special Status Species occur <br /> here: winter-run chinook(F/SE) are a considerable concern from Oct 15- May 31; the California black rail (ST) <br /> and the burrowing owl; four species of rare plants. <br /> RESOURCES OF PRIMARY CONCERN <br /> Extensive and ecologically rich marshy margins, islands and riparian growths. Diversified aquatic community <br /> including T/E species and migrant fish. <br /> Site is rich in bird life typical of marshy and riparian species including: waterfowl and marsh birds. The California <br /> black rail (ST)and burrowing owl occur within or near this site. <br /> Other vertebrates are typical riverine species. This may be habitat for western pond turtle. <br /> Fish life are typical warm water species of the Delta. Area is a prime fishing area for black bass and striped <br /> bass. Juvenile winter-run chinook can be of great concern here. <br /> Rare plants occurring here include California hibiscus, Suisun marsh aster, Mason's lilaeopsis, and Delta <br /> mudwort. Islands and margins are emergent marsh and shrub-scrub. Occasional riparian growth. <br /> CULTURAL.
