recorded on monitoring well purge tables. The groundwater samples will be analyzed for TPH-
g, TPH-d, TPH-j, BTEX and five fuel oxygenates.
3.5 EXCAVATION OF UNIDENTIFIED OBJECTS
Two areas of uplifted asphaltic -concrete pavement in the second survey area, east of the CSMS,
were surveyed in March 2000 using a metal detector and GPR. Metal was not detected at either
of the two targets. The GPR indicated an object was located immediately beneath the pavement
at each location.
A backhoe and hand excavation equipment will be used to carefully remove the pavement, and
expose the GPR-identified object at each location. Depending on the object, it will be removed
from the ground and sealed in a DOT -approved, steel, 55 -gallon drum. The drum will be labeled
with the contents, the source of the contents, the date of accumulation, and a contact phone
number. The excavation will be backfilled with suitable non -engineered fill material,
compacted, wheel -rolled at the surface, planed, and a hot -asphalt patch applied to match the
surrounding pavement. Photo -documentation of the excavation and investigation activities will
be made.
If the object(s) is considered to be hazardous to remove, it will left in place, covered by a steel
plate, and the area marked to not disturb.
3.6 STORAGE AND DISPOSAL OF WASTES
Drill cuttings and water collected during the soil drilling operation and groundwater sampling
activities will be stored in DOT -approved, 55 -gallon steel drums in a secure area at the Site. The
contents of the drums and the dates of collection will be clearly marked on appropriate labels.
All equipment, decontamination materials, and disposable personal protective gear will also be
placed in drums. When the hazardous characteristics of the materials have been determined, they
will be disposed of using proper procedures.
3.7 REPORTING
Following the completion of the field activities, a Site investigation report will be prepared. The
report will summarize all Site investigation activities, variations from the work plan, and include
all pertinent laboratory reports, figures, tables, and appendices supporting the investigation and
findings of the report.
10
3027-03/104700.4766.230/JUL23' 03
