15 March 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 04-1168
Page 3 of 9
to a total depth of 45 feet bsg. Boring B3 was advanced in the former dispenser location to a total
depth of 20 feet bsg. Hydrocarbon-like odor was detected in soil samples collected from boring B 1
at 25 and 30 feet bsg and boring B2 at 35 and 40. Organic vapor was detected by the OVM in soil
samples collected from borings B 1 and B2 at concentrations as high as 439 parts per million(ppm),
in sample B 1-40.
TPH-g was detected in soil samples collected from borings B 1 and B2 at a maximum concentration
of 500 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) in boring B 1 at 25 feet bsg. Toluene, ethylbenzene and
xylenes were detected in borings B1 and B2 at maximum concentrations of 0.017 mg/kg toluene
(132-45), 0.017 mg/kg ethylbenzene (132-45) and 6.3 mg/kg xylenes (B2-35). EDB was detected in
one soil sample at a concentration of 0.045 mg/kg(132-3 5).No constituents of concern were detected
in the soil samples collected and analyzed in the former dispenser location. Additional information
is presented in the AGE-prepared Limited Subsurface Investigation Report, dated 04 August 2004. .
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
Based on analytical data from the previous investigation at the site, additional investigation of the
petroleum hydrocarbon release was required by the SJCEHD. The proposed scope of work will
include the following tasks:
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• Soil boring advancement;
• Soil and ground water sample collection and analysis;
• Monitoring well installation and sampling; and
• Report preparation.
The preliminary site assessment tasks are discussed below.
3.1. PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Monitoring well installation permits will be obtained from the SJCEHD.The health and safety plan
on file with the SJCEHD in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for
Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Administration,U.S.Coast Guard and U.S.Environmental Protection Agency, 1985)will be updated
as necessary. Prior to mobilization, the area of excavation will be clearly marked and a utility
clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
