Wopb• A?r\y al .
From: Amy Terrell [mailto:aterrell@waterboards.ca.gov]
Sent: Friday, March 18, 2011 3:59 PM
To: Matt Scheeline
Subject: Re: Data Gap Workplan for Deere Stockton Site
Mr. Scheeline,
Thank you for providing the 18 March 2011 Data Gap Soil Investigation Workplan (Work Plan)
prepared by ERM for the former Lesco facility at 2829 West Washington Blvd., in the Port of
Stockton. As described in the Work Plan, John Deere Landscapes, who purchased the Lesco
facility, has removed the Dry Bulk Storage Warehouse building and the concrete pad at the
former Liquid Tank Farm. As you and Mr. Brod discussed with California Regional Water
Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region (Central Valley Water Board) staff in our 12
November 2010 meeting, the removal of the building and containment pad facilitates the
aquisition of soil samples that are expected to fill the data gaps in contaminant distribution.
Central Valley Water Board staff concur with the workplan. Please add analyses for sulfate to
all proposed samples numbered SB-42 through SB-52. Sulfur has been identified in almost all
previously obtained soil samples at the facility. Proposed samples SB-42 through SB-52 are
situated in the eastern half of the facility, where groundwater concentrations of sulfate have
been greatest. The objective is to estimate the extent to which sulfate found in groundwater
may have originated from historical site activities. A sulfur handling facility is adjacent to the
east.
In the Work Plan, ERM proposes to initiate investigation at the end of March 2011, and provide
report of results about 9 weeks later. We look forward to seeing the results by 10 June 2011.
John Deere Landscapes proposes to follow up with a Corrective Action Plan within two months
of the release of the Report of Results.
For convenience, the work plan is attached.
If you have any questions, you may contact me by telephone at(916) 464-4680, or by email at
aterrel I @waterboa rds.ca.gov.
Thanks
Amy Terrell
(916) 464-4680
>>> Matt Scheeline <Matt.Scheeline@erm.com> 3/18/2011 10:34 AM >>>
Amy—
Attached is the Data gap Soil Investigation Workplan for the John Deere Landscapes/Former
LESCO Facility in Stockton, CA. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments
regarding the proposed work. The fieldwork is scheduled to begin March 291".
Thank you.
