• After using the toilet, blowing your nose, covering a sneeze <br /> • Before eating, drinking or handling food <br /> • Whenever hands become obviously soiled <br /> Prevention of skin infections: <br /> • Provide good pericare. Cleanse with mild soaps only— do not use <br /> bactericidal soaps. <br /> • Encourage meals and fluids unless restricted. <br /> • Reposition at least every 2 hours. <br /> • Apply skin moisturizer at least daily and more often if dry skin. <br /> • Use clothing protectors to help prevent skin tens/abrasions. <br /> Prevention of respiratory infections <br /> • Pneumonia vaccine every 5 years and flu vaccine annually. <br /> • Encourage exercise—out of bed daily, ambulation if able. <br /> s HOB elevated at least 45 degrees for.enteral feedings. <br /> • Follow fluid consistency recommended by speech therapist. <br /> Prevention of GI infections <br /> • Adequate hydration and nutrition <br /> • Monitor bowel care to prevent constipation(BM at least Q 3 days) <br /> Remove uneaten food within 2 hours of meal. Remove milk within 1 <br /> hour. <br /> • when storing food on nursing unit, date and cover all food. Discard <br /> after 24 hours. <br /> 4 <br /> Prevention of eye infections <br /> s Keep fmgemails trimmed and clean. <br /> • Clean hands and face of resident before and after meals and after <br /> toileting. <br /> • Wash hands of residents with enteral feeding the same as residents <br /> who eat. <br /> • Use artificial tears if dry eyes.. <br /> • Provide adequate hydration and nutrition. <br />
