3) Other disposable waste shall be placed in a trash container lined with a plastic <br /> trash bag. <br /> 4) Waste containers shall be kept closed when not in use. <br /> 5) Disposable waste shall be handled, stored, and disposed of to minimize direct <br /> exposure of personnel to waste materials. <br /> Cross Contamination <br /> Cross contamination issues will be discussed with all body artists working t this facility. Some of <br /> the ways in which cross-contamination can occur in tattooing area as follows: <br /> • If one or more operators share the same equipment or materials. <br /> • If used and clean instruments come into contact with one another <br /> • If clean instruments are placed on unclean surfaces. <br /> • If strict operator hygiene is not observed. <br /> • If contaminated dressings, spatulas, disposable loves are not disposed of immediately <br /> and appropriately after use. <br /> • If structural facilities, furnishings, and fittings of the premises are not adequately <br /> protected, or thoroughly cleaned between clients. <br /> • If towels and other articles used on clients are not changed or thoroughly cleaned <br /> between clients <br /> Operators should be aware of the potential for unprotected surfaces and equipment to become <br /> contaminated with blood and serum during tattooing. Some examples of how this can occur are <br /> as follows: <br /> • Adjusting overhead light fittings. <br /> • Adjusting settings on power packs. <br /> • Answering telephones. <br /> • Touch ink bottles or ink trays. <br /> • Touching curtains, drapes, or bin lids. <br /> • Adjusting furniture and equipment. Clients, operators and the community can be at risk <br /> if cross-contamination occurs. <br /> The work area will be properly covered with barrier film, and all the bottles and equipment <br /> covered properly to protect from contamination. If, during a procedure the work must be <br /> stopped for any reason, the procedure site on the client will be covered by gauze or cling wrap. <br /> The work area will be covered with disposable lap cloth to protect from contamination. <br /> 22"U <br /> 1. Wash hands with soap and water, and wear fresh gloves. Sanitize the tattoo area all <br /> surfaces in which you will come into contact. Everything that will be touched or could be <br /> touched should be sanitized. <br /> 2. Remove and dispose of gloves and wash hands up to the elbow with soap and water for <br /> a minimum of 15 seconds. <br /> 3. Place barrier on counter or work surface. <br /> 4. Put on gloves and set up equipment such as ointment, ink caps, needles, tubes, inks, <br /> etc. check expiration dates on applicable items. <br /> 5. Bag any bottle the artist may use and put barrier film on lamps, controls, arms of chairs <br /> and all and any other surface you may come in contact with. Put sleeves covers on all <br /> clips cords. Once the tattoo machine is set up, a bag must be on machine to cover <br />
