During the site visit, the EHD noted that the facility did not meet the
current proposed guidelines for body art\tattooing as drafted by the California Conference
of Local Health Officers.
The EHD recommends:
• The facility floors appeared to soiled and stained. Adopt a regular cleaning
schedule that includes mopping the floors with an approved cleaning solution to
reduce the potential for contamination of the operating surfaces.
• The facility uses cellophane to cover the working area prior to a procedure. The
facility should adopt a process to sanitize counter tops as well as the chairs and
tables used in the procedures prior to reuse in addition to the use of cellophane.
The guidelines state.
"All solid surfaces and objects in the procedure area and the cleaning and
sterilization area which have come into contact with client, or the
materials used in performing the tattoo, body piercing or the application of
permanent cosmetics, including chairs, armrests, tables, countertops and
trays, shall be immediately decontaminated after each use and then
disinfected by application of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
registered disinfectant that is labeled tuberculocidal."
• The cleaning product used at your facility is not an approved EPA registered
disinfectant that is labeled tuberculocidal. The facility should begin using an
approved registered disinfectant.
