v <br />Lodi Outpatient Surgical Center <br />Title: Blood/ Body Fluid Spill Clean Up <br />POLICY: EOC 303 <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />State: <br />EFFECTIVE: 10/2/13 <br />CMS: 416.51 (a), 416.44(a) <br />REVISED: <br />TJC: IC.02.01.01 EP2,6, IC.01.04.01 EP2,4 <br />AAAHC: 7.1.C.3,8.M, 10.1,A, <br />To establish protocol for the proper procedure when cleaning up blood/body fluid. <br />In order to ensure proper clean-up of blood/ body fluid to avoid the spread of infectious <br />disease. <br />All spills of blood and/or body fluids will be considered as Regulated Medical Waste and <br />handled in the following manner: <br />Block off area. Use your wet floor caution signs to mark the spill and to direct traffic <br />around the spill. <br />Put on your gloves and a mask (goggles if necessary). <br />Obtain a spill kit and cover area with isolyser (Liquid treatment system). Use scoop <br />provided in container. <br />Wipe up solidified waste using disposable cloth and place in biohazardous waste <br />container. <br />Wipe the remaining spill with a disinfectant wipe. <br />After the appropriate time has elapsed use absorbent wipes to final clean the spill <br />Any sharp objects such as glass, needles, etc. are to be placed into a Sharps <br />Container, sealed and placed in the Soiled Hold for disposal (incineration). <br />All reusable items used in the clean-up should be wiped off with a disinfectant wipe. <br />All disposable items are to be placed in a red bag and placed in the appropriate area for <br />disposal. (Red Regulated Medical Waste container). <br />Wash your hands thoroughly. <br />After the area has dried - remove your wet floor caution signs. <br />
