LOBI MEMORIAL HOSPIJ# REVIEWED: 1989
Reviewed: 1990
INFECTIOUS WASTE COLLECTION PROCEDURE
1. Always wear gloves and a cover gown.
2. Always use the Infectious Waste cart only.
3. When Infectious waste is collected the Linen Janitor or staff
on duty will be paged to come and pick-up from specific area's
in the appropriate marked cans®
4. All cans will have a lid and will have labels on both the top
and the side that can be 6leanly read.
5. Place the Infectious waste which has already been double bagged
in the appropriate red bags and place into the auto clave bag
and then on the cart.
6. The auto clave bag must be closed with a twister before being
placed on the cart.
7. Never use the Infectious waste cart for storage, only to pick-up
and transport to the waste sterilizer.
8. The infectious waste can be stored in the waste sterilizer and
must be locked between sterilization runs,.
9. We are required to do a spore check monthly by Title 26 and
the records will be kept in the Lab.
10. After the load has been sterilized we will place the non-infect-
ious waste directly into the dumpster as all other trash. Follow
the procedure for the sterilizer very closely to prevent any
injuries or cross contamination.
11.1f a spill should occure in the Infectious waste cart follow the
cleaning procedure very carefully.
