All patient -related waste in the following areas will be considered infectious: <br />a. Emergency Roan <br />b. Dialysis Unit <br />c. Surgery <br />d. Intensive Care Unit _ <br />e. Labor and Delivery <br />f. Isolation Patient Waste <br />2. Use covered hamper stand with red decal printed "Infectious Waste". <br />3. Use red printed "Infectious Waste" bag, size 31" x 38". <br />4. To assemble hamper stand: <br />a. Unfold metal.frame. <br />b. Place bottom bag support inside bottom of frame with vertical edges of support <br />resting on frame. <br />r: c.- Place red printed bag on frame. Bottom of bag should touch bag support. Bag <br />fits tightly and will stretch over frame. 49 <br />w d. Attach top with "Infectious Waste" decal on attachment bar by placing metal <br />tension clips on bar and pushing down on top to snap on. <br />5. Keep "Infectious Waste" hampers in soiled utility areas and outside of isolation <br />rooms. Open hamper stand by use of foot pedal. *NOTE - Housekeeping maintains <br />stock of Infectious Waste hamper stands. Nursing is responsible to notify House- <br />keeping when an Infectious Waste hamper stand is required for an isolation room. <br />6. To collect infectious waste from isolation room: <br />a. All isolation and patient's trash receptacles shall be lined with small red bag. <br />b. Roll hamper stand to just outside of door of isolation roan. <br />c. Person on inside of roan removes. mall red bags from existing trash containers <br />and ties each bag with a double knot. <br />d. Small red bags are placed inside hamper just outside door. <br />e. Return "Infectious Waste" covered hamper to hallwaw outside of isolation room. <br />7." To collect Infectious Waste from non -isolation areas (i.e. - soiled dressirigs). <br />a. Place infectious wastein small clear bag and tie each with a double knot. <br />b. Place small bag in "Infectious Waste" hamper in soiled utility area. <br />8. When bag is full remove from hamper stand by opening top and removing bag through <br />cir9a of frame_ <br />
