Standard precautions, Medical waste <br />handling, and Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. <br />f. Describe your medical waste emergency action plan, including procedures for handling spills, <br />exposures, equipment failures, etc (Attach information as necessary): Medical waste emergencies <br />are handled on an individual basis depending of the severity of the situation. Needle sticks and <br />exposures are treated through Employee Health or Emergency Department. Medical Waste <br />spills are sectioned off to limit exposure and treated with germicidal -detergent quaternary <br />ammonium solution to render the site non-infectious. Stericycle has four transportation and <br />treatment plants in Northern California (see attached list).Any one of these sites could provide <br />service if our regular site could not <br />g. Describe how reusable medical waste carts or containers are cleaned and decontaminated. Approved <br />methods include agitation to remove visible soil combined with one of the following: <br />1. Exposure to hot water of at least 82 degrees Centigrade (180 degrees Fahrenheit) for a minimum <br />of 15 seconds. <br />2.
