Nursing station counter - box of masks to use for airborne disease <br />patients <br />11, Reasons for Not Labeling Specimens <br />Consistent with the need to treat all blood and body substances as if they <br />are potentially infectious, do not place "blood/body fluid precautions" or <br />other labe-ls on specimens fron--p—aTients with identified infections.. Using <br />special precautions labels on specimen tubes and containers encourages a <br />false sense of security and potentially increases risk to personnel who may <br />handle unlabeled specimens less carefully than they should. <br />1,L Surveillance of BSI <br />There will be policies for: <br />a. Initial orientation and continuing education and training of all health <br />care workers on the epidemiology, modes of transmission, and prevention <br />of HIV and other blood-borne infections and the need for routine use of <br />BSI for all patients. <br />b. Provision of equipr.vnt and supplies necessary to minimize the risk of <br />infection with blood borne pathogens. <br />C. Monitoring adherence to recommended protective measures. .When <br />monitoring -reveals a failure to follow recommended precautions, <br />counseling, education, and/or retraining should be provided, and, if <br />necessary, appropriate disciplinary action should be taken. <br />
