TRACYCOMMNITY MEMORIAL HOSPI1 <br />HOUSEKEEPING DEPARTMENT <br />PROPER DISPOSAL OF PLACENTAS (afterbirth) <br />Present procedure: <br />1. After delivering placenta is placed in basin by nursing <br />service. <br />2. Housekeeping puts placenta into a red bag then it is placed <br />into a second red bag then tied. <br />3. The infectious waste trash is then picked up by janitor using <br />special infectious cart for pick up. <br />4. Once infectious trash is taken to processing area the red bags <br />are placed in autoclave bags and tied. <br />S. Autoclave bag is placed in sterilizer unit and processed. <br />6. When sterilization process is finished the sterilized trash is <br />then dropped to bottom chamber and compacted like regular <br />trash. <br />1 7. Compacted trash picked up on Friday and taken to land fill by <br />Tracy Disposal Service. <br />I <br />
