DISPOSING, COLLECTING, TRANSPORTING AND TREATING <br />REGULATED MEDICAL WASTE <br />Facility <br />California Health Care Facility <br />7707 South Austin Road <br />Stockton, CA 95215 <br />Contact <br />Steve Sasson, RENS <br />Associate Hazardous Materials Specialist <br />(209) 467 7904 <br />Type of Generator <br />California Health Care facility (CHCF) is registered as a large quantity generator. <br />Segregation of Wastes <br />Medical waste includes biohazardous waste or sharps waste, waste that is generated or produced as <br />a result of the diagnosis, treatment or immunization of human beings or waste generated in the <br />production of testing of biologicals. Medical waste may contain infectious agents, which are any <br />type of microorganism, bacteria, mold, parasite or virus which normally causes or significantly <br />contributes to the cause of increased morbidity or mortality of human beings. <br />Medical waste is contained separately from other wastes at the point of generation. Medical waste <br />shall be handled and disposed of in accordance with the Medical Waste Management Act, Health <br />and Safety Code Section 25015 et.al. Seq. and regulations adopted there under, California Code of <br />Regulations, Title 22, Division 4, Chapter 21, Articles 1 through 4, commencing with Section <br />65600 and ending with Section 65628. As defined in Health and Safety Code Section 25023.2. <br />1) Utilizing proper PPE and following Standard Precautions is required when handling, packaging <br />or transporting any medical waste bags, containers or receptacles, PPE supplies and equipment <br />will be maintained in all areas generating medical waste. The Environmental Services Custodian <br />III Supervisor shall be responsible for ensuring this procedure is carried out. <br />2) All medical waste will be placed into designated biohazardous waste receptacles. Biohazardous <br />waste receptacles are located in close proximity to patient care areas in an Interim Storage Area <br />located in the HUTS of each housing unit. Approved waste receptacles shall be rolled to the <br />point of medical waste generation by Environmental Services Staff; the red plastic bags shall <br />not be hand -carried to the receptacles in the HUT. <br />3) Each "Biohazardous Waste" receptacle will have a large red plastic bag marked, "Biohazardous <br />Waste" open inside. The Custodian III supervisor shall ensure this regulation is carried out. <br />a. These receptacles will be located in the HUT, which is a locked, designated area away <br />from direct contact with inmate -patients. <br />
