accordance with Health and Safetly Sections 25080 through 25082, pertaining to medical waste <br />and if applicable, the California Code of Regulations, Title 17, Chapter 5, Subchapter 4, Group <br />1, Article 1, Sections 30285 and 30289, pertaining to radioactive materials. <br />a. Sharps containers will be rigid, puncture -proof containers that when sealed are leak - <br />resistant and are not able to be reopened without great difficulty. <br />b. Sharps containers shall be considered "full" when they reach 2/3 capacity or the <br />manufacturer's full line. Lids on filled sharps containers must be snapped, closed, taped <br />or otherwise sealed to prevent loss of contents prior to disposal. <br />c. As sharps containers are determined to be full, they shall be placed in designated waste <br />receptacles by Environmental Services Staff. <br />5) MSC staff is responsible for collection of all facility -generated medical waste from the HUT <br />areas and for transporting the medical waste from the HUT area to the MSC, where it will be <br />stored in the Designated Accumulation Area. <br />6) The Designated Accumulation Area shall be secured to prevent access to unauthorized persons. <br />This area shall be marked with warning signs stating the following: <br />a. In English, "Caution-Biohazardous waste storage area -unauthorized persons keep out" <br />b. In Spanish, "Cuidado-Zona de residues biologicos peligrosos-prohibida la entrada a <br />personals no autorizadas." <br />c. The Warehouse manager II shall be responsible for ensuring this procedure is carried <br />out. <br />7) All containers holding or receiving medical or putrescible (decaying) waste shall have tight- <br />fitting covers and shall be emptied at least every four days or more often if necessary. <br />a. In the event that there is any leakage of medical waste through any of the plastic <br />containers, the transportation cart must be sanitized utilizing approved bactericide. <br />b. Spills are cleaned up utilizing a solution of '/2 ounce Matar in one gallon of water or 1/4 <br />ounce Matar in one quart of water with an immediate contact time. The amount of <br />solution mixed will not exceed the amount to be used at any time. <br />8) CHCF has contract with a licensed, private vendor who will pick up and dispose of medical <br />waste in accordance with State Hazardous Waste Control Laws and Health and Safety Code <br />requirements. <br />9) Records for tracking of "Biohazardous Waste' will be retained for three years. <br />Pathological Waste: <br />1. Body Parts, Limbs <br />2. Organs <br />3. Preserved Specimens <br />Animal Body Parts and Carcasses <br />Chemotherapeutic Waste: <br />1. Needles and Syringes used in chemotherapeutic agent preparation <br />2. Gloves, IV tubing and bags used in chemotherapeutic agent preparation <br />
