1. The San -I -Pak shall be operated by MSC staff trained to operate the autoclave. 2. Bagged medical waste, excluding pathological waste, shall be brought to the San -I -Pak 342 Sterilizer/Compactor System in collection tubs. An autoclave chamber liner, which has a time/temperature sensitive indicator affixed, is to be inserted into the chamber. A clamp ring will then be used to hold the liner in place. 3. Next, the chamber shall be placed in the load position. The red bags are to then be loaded into the lined sterilizer chamber with the automatic cart dumper or otherwise hand -loaded into the chamber. After the chamber is loaded it will either be dog-eared or fastened with a tie strap. Autoclavable tub liners may be used as an alternative to chamber liners. The lined collection tubs will be filled with waste, brought to the San -I -Pak, and either dog-eared or fastened with a tie strap before the waste is dumped into the chamber. When the chamber is full, it will be placed into the sterilize position. 4. The door shall be closed and the unit's cycle is initiated. After the waste is autoclaved, the door will be opened and the sterilizer chamber will automatically dump the treated waste into the solid waste compactor and then compacted into the roll -off container. Loading and Operating 1. Load (with chamber liners, approximately 4 minutes/chamber) • Place chamber liner on chamber • Fold Chamber liner back over load door; place clamp ring over folded liner. • Load chamber, remove clamp ring, and tie/secure the liner. • Rotate chamber into the sterilization position. 2. Sterilization • Blue "Sterilize" button is activated. • San -I -Pak first pulls a vacuum with a minimum of 18 inches within the chamber. • Air removes during the vacuum stage is mixed with 307° F. steam. • Steam is then injected into the sterilization chamber; chamber reaches a maximum of 38 psig. • After a temperature of 270° F. is achieved; a 30 -minute timer is automatically activated. • Chamber quickly reaches an ultimate temperature of 281 ° F. — 284° F. • Chamber is held in a high temperature, high-pressure environment for the full 30 minutes. • Upon completion of the sterilization cycle the chamber vents down. • Existing steam is piped to the condensate tank; it condenses and flows into the sanitary sewer. 3. Discharge • Open load door. • Activate "Dump" button. • Sterilized waste falls into discharge cart. 6
