0 0
1 have called Mr. Mattu and informed him we are conducting tests today on Chambers 1 and 2.
When the San-I-Pak is done we will run a spore test for 48 hours and hold the loads until we can confirm a negative
result on both chambers. We are expecting results between Monday or Wednesday.
I will also send him copies of the monthly logs for his review. And will fully answer his e-mail request below.
Gina Escalante
Material 8, Stores Supervisor II
California Health Care Facility
7707 Austin Road
Stockton, CA 95215
(209) 467-3035
From: Harprit S. Mattu [EH] [mailto:hmattu@sjcehd.com]
Sent: Wednesday, May 28, 2014 1:41 PM
To: Escalante, Gina@CDCR
Subject: FW: Sterlization Records, Spore Testing
Hi Gina,
I reviewed your spore test results and I have a few questions/concerns. On page 1,the first set of results(March 24, 25,
2014)do not specify the result of the test,or the chamber that is being tested. On page 2, the second result
(4/1/2014)specifies the sterilizer(chamber) as#2 and specifies a negative result. The only problems with this page is
that there is no test for chamber# 1. On page 3,the third set of results (5/9/2014)the sterilizer numbers are correctly
listed. For sterilizer#2 the result of the test is not specified. For sterilizer#1 the result of the test is positive. A positive
result indicates that the load was not sterilized properly. If a test indicates a positive result, then the load me be re-
sterilized with another spore test conducted to ensure proper sterilization has occurred. If the second spore test also
indicates a positive result then that concludes that the load is not being sterilized properly and the autoclave will need
to be serviced/repaired and must not be used until a negative spore test can be produced. Please conduct and submit
another spore test for both chambers to show that loads are being sterilized. If a spore test indicates a positive result,
we need to see another spore test with a negative result to show that the problem has been corrected and that the
autoclave is working properly. I also noticed that the load number was listed as"1"for the May spore tests, but load
numbers were not provided for the previous tests. Is there a reason for this? Another concern that we have when a
spore test results in a positive is the condition of the waste that was treated with the spore test. Because the spore test
indicated a positive result, that load was not sterilized properly. Was the load re-sterilized?
The autoclave's thermometer needs to be calibrated annually and records of calibration must be maintained for 3
years. Now would be a good time to have the thermometer calibrated. If the spore tests result in another positive, then
a technician can examine the autoclave and calibrate the thermometer at the same time.
I understand that this is a lot of information,so if you need clarification or have any questions please respond to this
email or give me call at 209-468-3284. If I have any further questions or concerns I will let you know.
Thank you,
Harprit S. Mattu
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department
1868 E.
