Reusable pails, drums, dumpsters, or bins used for medical waste are used for solid waste containment without <br /> being properly decontaminated. <br /> - A person shall not use reusable pails, drums, dumpsters, or bins used for medical waste for the containment of solid <br /> waste, or for other purposes, except after being decontaminated by the procedures specified in HSC 118295 and <br /> removal of all medical waste labels. HSC 118305–Container in MUT being used for solid waste storage had a <br /> biohazard symbol on it. Submit evidence of corrective action by 2/9/2018. <br /> 29. Intermediate storage area is not secured or marked with proper signage. <br /> - Intermediate storage area shall be either locked or under direct supervision or surveillance and marked with the <br /> international biohazard symbol or the warning signs, "CAUTION—BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE <br /> AREA—UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS KEEP OUT", in English and in another language determined to be <br /> appropriate by the infection control staff or LEA. HSC 118307–Corrected on site. <br /> Notes: <br /> • Facility treats all biohazardous waste on site. Records of sterilization, thermometer calibration, annual <br /> training, and spore testing were available for review. Prior to placing red bag in biohazardous waste container, <br /> facility lines the containers with autoclave bags which have sterilizer indicators on them. <br /> • Facility uses "Inmark" as its reverse distributor for expired/unused pharmaceuticals. <br /> • Facility uses Superior Medical Waste, Inc., as its medical waste hauler. Treatment records were emailed to <br /> EHD. <br /> • This facility has 4 yards (A, B, C, D)with identical layouts. Walk through of yard`B," specifically units B 1 A, <br /> 138A, and B813 was conducted during this inspection. <br /> • E yard clinic was inspected during this inspection. <br /> • Medical waste is stored in the Housing Utility Rooms (HUTs). Each HUT is located between two housing <br /> units. There are several housing units in each yard. The medical waste is removed from the HUT and taken to <br /> the warehouse where it is stored in the designated accumulation area prior to treatment and/or pickup. <br /> • Other areas of the facility generating medical waste include the Pharmacy, Specimen Room, Dialysis Clinic, <br /> Dental Clinic, Diagnostic Imaging and Procedures, and Standby Emergency. <br /> • Clean Containers are stored in the Municipal Utility Room (MUT) after being washed and transferred from the <br /> warehouse. The MUT also has a Soiled Utility Room, which is used to store waste before it is transferred to <br /> the warehouse. <br /> Reinspecion on/about: A reinspection fee of$130 per hour may be charged.
