a <br />L] <br />7 <br />3. Reportable Diseases <br />a. Follow this facility's procedures on reporting such <br />conditions to the state or county health department. <br />b. Sudden or unusual outbreaks of serious or uncommon <br />diseases will be reported immediately by phone to the <br />local health officer. They will make a thorough <br />investigation of the situation and report results to the <br />state health department. <br />4. Isolation <br />a. This facility follows the Center for Disease Control in <br />Atlanta, Georgia's Guidelines For the Prevention and <br />Control of Nosocomial Infections. <br />5. Employee Health <br />a. Please refer to the. Employee Health section of this <br />manual. <br />6. Volunteer Health <br />a. The policies listed in the Employee Health section will be <br />applied if the volunteer is in this facility _ or more <br />hours per month. <br />7. Visitor Health <br />a. The Infection Control Committee will decide on limiting or <br />restricting visitors during disease outbreaks in the <br />community. <br />8. Testing for Infection Control Purposes <br />a. Environmental: The Infection Control Committee will de- <br />cide when periodic cultures of the environment are <br />necessary. <br />b. Secretions and drainage: At the earliest suspicion of <br />infection the investigator will attempt to secure a <br />physician's order for a culture and sensitivity. If this <br />is not possible, the Director of Nursing Services or In- <br />fection Control Nurse will make an administrative decision <br />to obtain a culture and sensitivity. The physician will <br />be informed of this decision. <br />9. Infection Control Committee <br />a. The Infection Control Committee will develop, monitor and <br />revise the Infection Control Program at least once a year. <br />(continued) <br />
