El <br />L7 <br />M <br />5. Once the type of necessary isolation is identified, it should <br />be posted,on the resident's door and entered into the <br />resident's care plan and medical record. (The sign may be posted <br />on the bed instead of the door.) <br />6. A single room is recommended for residents on strict <br />isolation, respiratory isolation or tuberculosis isolation. <br />The room door should be closed and the resident should have a <br />call light within reach. <br />7. The manner in which supplies are set up for <br />isolation/precautions residents should be uniform throughout <br />the facility. <br />a. Usually, this consists of a table or cabinet containing <br />supplies, clean gowns, masks, paper bags, etc. They <br />should be outside ti -e resident room for easy access. <br />b. Precaution laundry bag and wastebasket should be available <br />in each room with a precaution resident. <br />B. A gown must be worn to protect clothing from coming into <br />contact with contaminated materials. <br />a. Remove and replace gown if it becomes wet while still <br />handling a resident. <br />b. Gowns are to be worn one time only by just one individual. <br />After that, they should be discarded. <br />C. When the gown must be discarded before leaving the <br />resident room, use the resident's wastebasket for <br />disposal. <br />d. Do not wear a gown away from the immediate environment of <br />residents on isolation/precautions. <br />9. Thorough handwashing is mandatory before and after coming in <br />contact with a resident or whenever hands are contaminated. <br />a. The single most effective deterrent to the spread of <br />infections is mechanical cleansing of the skin with soap <br />and water. <br />b. Tnstruct residents cn the imperta; ce and proper methods of <br />handwashing. <br />10. Use masks when necessary. <br />a.
