0 ft
9
14. Specimens of residents on isolation/precautions requested for
the lab should be placed in a disposable bag and labeled with
the type of precautions being used. Attach a requisition to
the outside of the bag.
15. Place contaminated linen in an identifiable plastic laundry
bag in the resident's room. Isolation laundry bags should
remain in the resident's room until taken to the laundry.
16. Isolation trays for resident food will be provided by the
Dietary Department if it appears likely that dishware might
become contaminated with infective material.
a. Nursing service is responsible for the delivery of trays
to the resident.
b. All food is to be removed from the nondisposable tray
before being delivered into the resident's room.
17. When a resident is -to be transported, cover the conveyance
with a clean sheet. Then, place the resident on the
conveyance and cover him or her with another clean sheet.
Those on respiratory or tuberculosis isolation must wear a
mask. Inform transporting and receiving personnel of the type
of precaution the resident is on.
18. Discard syringes, needles and like materials in the usual
manner.
a. Follow facility procedures for rendering needles and
syringes unusable and dispose of them in proper container.
b. If someone is accidentally punctured by a contaminated
needle, they should immediately report the incident to
their supervisor or the infection control nurse and then
fill out an incident form.
19. Incineration is the best way to dispose of contaminated
discardable items. Double -bag material, label it "infectious
waste" and place it in the receptacle for disposal.
20. Non -disposable contaminated items must be enclosed by clean
materials when removed from the resident's room.
21. Contaminated s1 -;p=lies or equipment which cannot be discarded
must be cleaned and decontaminated before leaving the
resident's room.
22. Terminal disinfection of a single room and bathroom is needed
when isolation/precautions are discontinued (even though
resident is still in the room), after resident transfer or
resident discllar^e.
