Immediately after use, sharps shall be disposed of in closable, puncture resistant, dis: <br />containers which are leakproof on the sides and bottom and that arc labeled or coi <br />coded. <br />A. These containers shall be easily accessible to personnel and located in the immc <br />area of use. <br />B. These containers shall be replaced routinely and not allowed to overfill. <br />3.- Laundry <br />that is contaminated <br />with blood or other <br />potentially infectious materials or <br />contain <br />contaminated sharps <br />shall be treated as if <br />it were contaminated and shall b <br />handled <br />as little as possible <br />and with a minimum <br />of agitation. <br />A. Contaminated laundry shall be bagged at the <br />location where it was used and sr:: <br />not <br />be sorted or rinsed <br />in patient care areas. <br />B. Contaminated laundry shall be placed and transported in bags that are labeled =:; <br />color coded. Whenever this laundry is wet and presents the potential for soak - <br />through or leakage from the bag, it shall be placed and transported in leakpro{ <br />bags. <br />C. The employer shall ensure that laundry workers wear protective gloves and othr <br />appropriate personal protective equipment to prevent occupational exposure durir <br />handling or sorting. <br />EMPLOYEE INFORMATION AND TRAINING <br />1. Employers shall ensure that all employees with occupational exposure participate in a <br />training program. <br />2. Training shall be provided at the time of initial employment and at least. annually <br />thereafter. <br />3. Material appropriate to content and vocabulary to educational level, literacy and lang: <br />background of employees shall be used. <br />b ' 4. The training program shall contain the following elements. <br />A. A general explanation of the epidemiology and symptoms of bloodborne diseases; <br />B. An explanation of the modes of transmissions of bloodborne pathogens; <br />C. An explanation of the employer's infection control program; <br />D. An explanation of the appropriate methods for recognizing tasks and other actin;,. <br />that may involve exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials; <br />
