Medical Waste Containers <br /> Policy Y Statement <br /> Medical waste containers shall be located throughout the facility and treatment areas. <br /> Policy Interpretation and Implementation <br /> Location of Waste I. Medical waste containers shall be located throughout the facility and treatment <br /> Containers areas and must be kept covered at all times. Designated individuals will be <br /> responsible for ensuring that containers are placed in locations where needed. <br /> Construction of Medical 2. Medical waste containers are located in the'following areas of the facility: <br /> Waste Containers <br /> 3. Medical waste containers used by this facility will be: <br /> a. Closable; <br /> b. Constructed to contain all contents and prevent leakage of fluids during <br /> handling,storage,transport or shipping; <br /> c. Labeled or color-coded in accordance with established policies governing the <br /> labeling of containers; <br /> d. Closed prior to removal from the facility,treatment areas,or from the premises <br /> to prevent spillage or protrusion of contents during handling,storage,transport, <br /> or shipping;and <br /> e. Impermeable and capable of maintaining impermeability through final waste <br /> disposal. <br /> Contamination of Waste 4. A container that becomes contaminated must be placed in a second container, <br /> Containers which must also meet the requirements outlined in paragraph 2. <br /> Disposal of Medical Wastes 5.
