Waste Training <br /> All employees are trained to recognize regulated medical and pharmaceutical waste <br /> and how to properly manage medical waste within 90 days from the start of <br /> employment and every year thereafter, and as needed. Staff members who handle <br /> medical and pharmaceutical waste are trained regarding personal protection and safety <br /> especially the proper use of personal protective equipment to wear, and proper handling, <br /> containerizing, disposing and labeling. <br /> The training focuses on staff members who: <br /> (1) handle medical waste from the point-of generation at the bedside <br /> (2)transport the waste <br /> (3) prepare the waste for transport by contractor. <br /> In addition, the Director of Staff Development(DSD) conducts in-services to all staff <br /> annually regarding Bloodborne Pathogens, Aerosol Transmissible Diseases, Handling <br /> Regulated Waste and any other measures taken to avoid exposure and emergency <br /> procedures in the event of exposure. A representative of Stericycle, Inc. also comes <br /> and conducts training yearly to all staff about Safety Data Sheets, Infectious Waste and <br /> Bloodborne Pathogen Safety. <br /> The Director of Staff Development (DSD) keeps all training records of all staff in the Staff <br /> Development Office <br /> Vl. Emergency Action Plan <br /> Vienna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center medical waste is stored only in secured labeled <br /> area. In the event that service by the medical waste transporter and or the treatment <br /> contractor is interrupted for any reasons the following actions would be implemented: <br /> a. Vienna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will make an effort to dispose the <br /> medical waste within seven (7) days. <br /> b. Contact Stericycle and determine if regular service can be resumed promptly or <br /> I <br /> 11 <br /> i <br /> i <br /> I <br /> i <br />
