MASTER PLAN FOR OFF-SITEINFECTIOUS WASTE DISPOSAL <br /> r _ <br /> The following plan is submitted for the purpose of explainingthe <br /> infectious waste disposal service provideBingham, Inc. <br /> Collectively, the procedures and methods used to separate <br /> and <br /> handle infectious waste are ,those required by Title 22 of the <br /> California Administrative Code, and the palifornia Health and <br /> Safety Code. <br /> A. PRODUCERS OF INFECTIOUS WAST <br /> The State of California has determined"that infectious waste <br /> poses a health hazard based eithel upon the potential virulence <br /> of the waste itemr or the sheer volume of material present. As a <br /> results the regulations apply to any health c re facility which <br /> is licensed under one of the following categories: <br /> General acute care hospital <br /> Acute psychiatric hospital , <br /> Skilled nursing facility <br /> Intermediate care facility <br /> Intermediate care facility for the <br /> developmentally <br /> It lso� encompasses any of the following primary care clinics <br /> defined and licensed under Chapter 1, Division 2 of the Health <br /> and Safety Code: <br /> Community clinics ' <br /> Free clinics <br /> Employee clinics <br /> « <br /> Surgical clinics <br /> Chronic dialysi6 clinics <br /> Rehabilitationclinic <br /> These facilities have been included in the regulations due to the <br /> concentration of potentially harmful organisms in the waste <br /> rodgcts. Like the five categories above, these fa;.Uiti s are <br /> regulated regardless of the volume of material generated. <br /> Sheer volume of material poses a threat as well. It is estimated <br /> that California generates upwards of 90 million pounds o <br /> infectious waste each year. . Therefore, ANY producer of moret <br /> han <br /> 100 kilograms (220 pounds) per mouth of infectious wastet <br /> comply with regulations. For example, although not specifically <br /> listed above, the 100 kilogram clause could include many <br /> physician's offices, veterinarians, research centers, <br /> laboratories, or urgent care centers. <br />
