No reusable containers <br /> shall come into direct contact with hazardous <br /> or infectious disposable materials. <br /> 2. Hazardous or infectious disposable wastes shall <br /> be transported in a manner which will preclude <br /> the spread of infectious disease or the causing <br /> of injury to persons in the proximity of the <br /> transportation route. Reusable rigid containers, <br /> such as metal or plastic, shall be sanitized <br /> immediately after their packaged contents are <br /> discharged. .Following are the approved methods <br /> for sanitizing multi-use containers utilized <br /> for storage of hazardous or infectious wastes; <br /> a. Heat - exposure to heat of at least 18001', <br /> for a minimum of 15 seconds <br /> b. Chemical - rinse or immersion <br /> hypochlorite - 100 ppm for a minimum of <br /> 30 seconds <br /> Chlorine/Bromine combination - 100 ppm for <br /> a minimum of 30 seconds <br /> Quaternary Ammonia Compounds (State approved) <br /> 200 ppm for a minimum of 30 seconds <br /> :iodoforms - Iodine - 25 ppm for a minimum of <br /> 30 seconds <br /> ; . DISCHARGE: VVhG n h� z,,.a d.o"uL, or infectious disposable <br /> 7.astes are discharged .from the transport "v-�hicle", <br /> precautions similar to those described in Section <br /> II, F, 2 shall be observed. <br /> I. PROCESSING: <br /> 1 . T'wo (2) processes which should be conducted, <br /> when feasible, are: <br /> a. Steralizing of infectious wastes to destroy <br /> the disease transmission potential by <br /> processes such as autoclaving or chemical <br /> treatment; <br /> b. Grinding, melting, or pulverizing "sharps" <br /> to destroy their injury-producing <br /> potential <br /> When feasible, both of these processes shall be <br /> carried out as soon as possible and with as <br /> little handling as possible. <br />
