0 <br /> 10.ACCUMULATION AREA REQUIREMENTS <br /> Any enclosure or designated accumulation area used for the storage of medical waste <br /> containers shall be secured so as to deny access to unauthorized persons and protection <br /> from animals and natural elements. Storage area must be covered and secured. <br /> 11.WARNING SIGNS <br /> The enclosed area shall be marked with warning signs in or adjacent to the exterior of <br /> entry doors, gates or lids. The storage area may be secured by use of locks on entry <br /> doors, gates, or receptacle lids. The wording of warning signs shall be in English, <br /> "CAUTION - BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE AREA - UNAUTHORIZED <br /> PERSONS KEEP OUT", and in Spanish, "CADIT - SOIA DE RECITES — BIOLOGICOS <br /> PELIGROSOS PROHIBIDA LA ENTRADA A PERSONAS NO AUTORIZADAS", or in <br /> another language, in addition to English, determined to be appropriate by the infection <br /> control staff or enforcement agency. Warning signs shall be readily legible during <br /> daylight from a distance of at least 25 feet. <br /> 12. COMPACTORS <br /> Compactors shall not be used to process medical waste until after the waste has been <br /> treated and rendered solid waste. <br /> MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT ACT REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS <br /> 1. Facilities that produce less than 200 lbs per month of regulated medical waste and do <br /> not treat that medical waste onsite are not reqs fired to renicter <br /> • Large quantity generators - a medical waste generator that generates 200 or more <br /> pounds per month of regulated medical waste, hazardous waste. <br /> • Small quantity generators, those that produce less than 200 pounds per month <br /> that treat medical waste on site by means of autoclaving, incinerating, or micro <br /> waving. <br /> 2. FEES <br /> The fees vary depending on the specific enforcement agency. <br /> 3. INFORMATION NECESSARY FOR REGISTRATION <br /> • Types of medical waste generated at the facility, e.g., laboratory waste, blood or <br /> body fluids, sharps or isolation waste. <br /> • Estimated monthly amount of medical waste generated at the facility. <br /> • Description of the medical waste handling procedures utilized includes: <br /> o Onsite location and method for segregation, containment, packaging, <br /> labeling and collection. <br /> o Storage area description with storage methods utilized, including <br /> duration and temperature controls if applicable. <br /> o Onsite treatment facility description, including type of treatment utilized, <br /> maximum capacity, time and temperature necessary, alternate <br /> contingency plan in case of equipment failure, etc. <br /> o Name, address, registration number, and phone number of the <br /> registered hazardous waste hauler employed by the facility. <br /> Biohazardous Waste Plan <br /> 3 <br />
