SUCTION CANISTERS. If suction canisters:are disposable and filled with an <br /> approved soiidifier they can be discarded in the trash. <br /> 5. OTHER WASTES (NON-REGULATED) <br /> • Fluid filled containers (e.g_ foley bags, urinals etc. ) will be emptied into the <br /> sanitary sewer prior to disposal of the container in the trash in the soiled utility <br /> room. <br /> o• Resident care items (e.g. foley bags, urinals, etc)will be discarded in the utility <br /> room and not in the resident's room due to potential contamination and for <br /> aesthetic purposes. <br /> ,#Dressings will be contained at the bedside and discarded in the soiled utility room <br /> trashcan. Dressings are not considered infectious waste unless they are soaked <br /> and dripping wet with blood. They can be contained in a regular impervious trash <br /> bag and discarded with regular trash. <br /> 6. BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE BAGS <br /> Biohazard bag means a disposable red bag, which is impervious to moisture and has <br /> strength sufficient to preclude ripping, tearing, or bursting under normal conditions of <br /> usage and handling of the waste filled bag. A biohazard bag shall be,constructed of <br /> material of sufficient single thickness strength to .pass the 165-gram dropped dart <br /> impacted resistant test as prescribed by Standard D 1709-85 of the American Society <br /> for Testiing and Materials al-K-41 certified by the bag i anufacturer. Biohazardous waste <br /> bags shall be tied to prevent leakage or expulsion of contents during handling and <br /> transport. Biohazardous waste bags, once tied shall be placed for transport in a <br /> biohazard container. <br /> 7. BIOHAZARDOUS CONTAINERS <br /> The container shall be leak resistant, have tight fitting covers, and be kept clean and in <br /> good repair. The container may be of any color and shall be labeled with the <br /> international biohazard symbol and the word "BIOHAZARD" on the lid and sides visible <br /> from any direction. <br /> 8. STORAGE DURATION <br /> Biohazardous waste shall not be contained or stored above 0 degrees Centigrade or 32 <br /> degrees Fahrenheit for more than seven (7) days. Biohazardous waste may be stored at <br /> or below 0 degrees centigrade (32 degrees Fahrenheit)for up to ninety(90)days. <br /> 9_ CONTAINER CLEANING REQUIREMENTS <br /> Reusable rigid containers for biohazardous waste shall be thoroughly washed and <br /> decontaminated each time they are emptied, unless the surfaces of the containers have <br /> been completely protected from contamination by disposable liners, bags, or other <br /> devices removed with the waste.
