7. Disposal of sharps: Impervious sharps containers will be maintained in each <br />resident care area and discarded regularly by the Housekeeping Department in the <br />Biohazard container. The Biohazard container shall be kept in a locked room with a <br />sign denoting uBiohazard" on the door. <br />8. Disposable resuscitation devices (i.e. pocket mask / ambu bag etc.) will be <br />available in each resident care area. <br />Infectious Waste: Infectious waste shall be placed in an approved garbage bag (red <br />bags are no longer required unless soaked with blood or infectious drainage) and <br />placed in appropriately marked waste containers and emptied every shift or more often <br />if indicated. <br />9. Incontinent products: Soiled incontinent products shall be placed in a plastic bag <br />and discarded with regular waste. <br />5 0. Cleaning Procedures: Cleaning agents, hand washing products and resident care <br />bathing I wound products will be reviewed by the Infection Control Committee and <br />documented in the minutes on an annual basis. <br />11. Internal I Contracted Laundr*y Services: Laundry services will be reviewed at least <br />annually for compliance with temperature Controls and infection control practices. <br />12. Control of Outbreak: If there is an outbreak of an infection, the infection con <br />nurse shall conduct an investigation to determine possible causes. Precaution <br />measures shall be implemented immediately i.e. removeaffected I <br />resident(s) fro <br />common dining and activity areas until not infectious, consider limiting visitors, <br />increase hydration and monitoring of infection control practices.
