INFECTS WASTE POLICY AND PROCE <br />qW <br />• POLICY: <br />This facility operates with an environmental permit to <br />maintain infectious waste. This waste is locked in a separate <br />area at all times, unless being transported by authorized <br />personnel. The area provides a manner and location which af- <br />fords protection from animals, rain, wind and does not provide <br />a breeding place or a food source for insects or rodents. The <br />waste is double bagged in red, plastic, leak proof bags, label- <br />ed infectious waste, visible from 25 feet. The waste is placed <br />in containers labeled in the same manner. The waste is removed <br />from this facility every 4 days. The total amount of waste <br />per month is less than 100 kilograms. <br />If a waiver is granted from San Joaquin County and Licensing, <br />this facility will have the infectious waste removed every 7 <br />tlr'"J <br />days, rather than 4 days. <br />PROCEDURE: <br />1) Licensed staff, red bag, infectious waste. <br />2) Open infectious waste door --- place waste in covered <br />lined trash can. <br />3) Lock door. <br />4) Housekeeping in the presence of licensed staff, empty <br />infectious waste daily. <br />a. Remove liner from trash can. <br />b. Seal it. <br />C. Replace new liner in trash can. <br />d. Transport waste to outside locked storage room. <br />e. Place waste in City of Lodi supplied container. <br />f. Lock door. 'l <br />g. Housekeeping, open every A days for City refuse <br />company <br />5) Any areas exposed to infectious waste such as the lined <br />trash can will be decontaminated withflo r <br />cleaner. Use the following steps: �- <br />a) To disinfect hard non -porous surfaces, add 3 ounces per <br />gallon of water. Treated surfaces must remain wet 10 <br />minutes. At this use -level, this product is also <br />Virocidal and fungicidal. <br />b) To sanitize porous or non -porous, non-food contact surfaces <br />add 1 ounce per gallon of water. <br />C) Dispose the cleaning contents into the hopper. <br />Revised 6/5/86 <br />
