FIVESTAR <br /> QUALITY CARE,INC. <br /> • A description of the employee's job duties relevant to the exposure incident; <br /> • Route(s) of exposure; <br /> • Circumstances of exposure; <br /> • If possible, results of the source individual's blood test; and <br /> • Relevant employee medical records, including vaccination status. <br /> 9. As soon as feasible after an exposure incident, the health care professional will obtain <br /> consent from the exposed employee, collect their blood, and test the blood for HBV <br /> and HIV serological status. <br /> a. If the exposed employee does not give consent for HIV serological testing during <br /> collection of blood for baseline testing, the health care professional will preserve <br /> the baseline blood sample for at least 90 days. <br /> b. If the exposed employee elects to have the baseline sample tested during this <br /> waiting period, the healthcare professional will make arrangements to perform <br /> testing. <br /> 10. The Infection Prevention Coordinator provides the employee with a copy of the <br /> evaluating health care professional's written opinion within 15 days after completion of <br /> the evaluation. <br /> a. The healthcare professional's written opinion regarding Hepatitis B vaccination is <br /> limited to whether the vaccination is indicated and if the employee has received <br /> such vaccination. <br /> b. The post-exposure evaluation and follow-up is limited to the employee having <br /> been informed of the evaluation results and told about any medical conditions <br /> resulting from exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials that <br /> require further evaluation or treatment. <br /> 11. Recommended post exposure prophylaxis (per CDC guidelines) include: <br /> a. If the exposed individual is unvaccinated and the source is HbsAG positive: <br /> • Administer Hepatitis B Immune Globulin (HBIG) as sopn as possible after <br /> exposure (preferably within 24 hours) and initiate the Hepatitis B vaccine <br /> series <br /> b. If the exposed individual is unvaccinated and the source is HbsAG negative, <br /> untested or unknown: <br /> • Initiate Hepatitis B vaccine series <br /> 3/14/01 CL-IP-3051 Post-Exposure Evaluation Page 2 of 4 <br />
