Infection Prevention & Control Program <br />Medical Waste Management <br />Waste Minimization <br />The purpose of this program is to provide guidance on the segregation of medical waste <br />from other waste streams and establish proper handling and disposal procedures in <br />accordance with the Medical Waste Management Act, Division 20, Chapter 6. 1, Health <br />and Safety Code. Care Centers are classified asIZ llA I I� <br />There are no medical wastes produced <br />which contain or are comprised ot recogmzable anatomical remains. <br />1. Policy <br />® It is the policy of the company and the Care Centers to segregate medical waste <br />at the point of generation and handle the waste properly using appropriate <br />personal protective equipment and good work practices. <br />All employees and all contract employees shall adhere to the medical waste <br />plan. <br />® Violations of the plan or non -adherence with policy will result in disciplinary <br />action, up to. and including termination of employment and or services. <br />9 Appropriate personal protective equipment shall be donned when exposure to <br />blood and body fluids is possible. <br />® When available needleless systems will be utilized. Safety shields will be <br />engaged immediately following use. Sharps will never be recapped. <br />®Sharps containers will never be filled more than 2/3 hall. <br />0 l .: <br />:I,. ,, . ' i :II.
