c. <br />Nursing Service, as well as other department personnel that may be <br />required to perform patient services, shall follow all isolation pro- <br />cedures as established by these procedures, as well as any special <br />instructions that may be issued. <br />6. LAUNDRY AND LINEN SERVICES: <br />a. <br />Nursing Service shall notify the Laundry Department Supervisor, or <br />the person in charge during the supervisor's absence, of the isola- <br />tion, and that appropriate isolation procedures will need to be im- <br />plemented. <br />b. <br />Two red barrels with lids lined with red plastic bags shall be placed <br />in the isolation room by the Maintenance Department. One barrel is <br />marked "Soiled Linen" and the other "Infectious Waste". Soiled linen <br />shall be handled as little and as gently as possible to prevent the <br />spread of infectious disease. <br />c. <br />When the plastic laundry bag is almost full, seal the top of the bag, <br />and place it into a clean plastic bag marked "ISOLATION" outside the <br />isolation room. The bag shall be picked up by the laundry depart- <br />ment. <br />d. <br />The person taking the linen bag to the laundry department should bold <br />the bag AWAY from themselves, and SHALL NOT drag or push the bag <br />along the floor. <br />e. <br />All ISOLATION laundry and linen shall be washed SEPARATELY and re- <br />turned to the ISOLATION ROOM for re -use in that room ONLY, until <br />such time the isolation has been lifted, and then ONLY after it has <br />been thoroughly sanitized. <br />f. <br />All personal clothing shall be laundered by the facility. The <br />patient's family SHALL NOT be allowed to take ANY articles from the <br />room, and shall be so instructed by the Charge Nurse. <br />7. RESTRICTION OF VISITATION: <br />a. All visitors must be instructed on isolation procedures PRIOR to <br />entering the patient's room. <br />b. Visitors shall be instructed on the use of gowns, gloves, mask, etc. <br />as well as the necessity of the isolation. This is the responsibi- <br />lity of the Charge Nurse. <br />c. Any visitor who willfully violates our infection control procedures <br />shall be restricted from visiting the patient until the patient has <br />been removed from isolation, and such restriction shall be noted <br />on the patient's chart and reported to the Director of Nurses and the <br />Administrator. <br />d. Visitors shall not be permitted to bring unnecessary articles into <br />the isolation room, and shall not take any articles from the room <br />when leaving. <br />e. Personal articles of visitors, such as coats, hats, purses, etc., <br />shall be left at the nursing station. <br />f. Visitors shall be instructed why and how to avoid contact with con- <br />taminated articles within the room. <br />g. Visitors shall be instructed to remove the gown INSIDE THE ROOM and <br />that bands must be washed thoroughly PRIOR to leaving the isolation <br />room. <br />
