TRACY CONVALESCENT HOS DT TAL <br /> a <br /> Tracy , California <br /> INFECTIOUS WASTE <br /> Infectious waste shall be defined as : <br /> 1 . Sharps-disposable needles rendered unusable <br /> ENMOMiEf TAL HEALTH <br /> 2. Dressings/bandages FERIAIT/SERVICES <br /> 3. Disposable products used by patients in isolation <br /> STORAGE AND CONTAINMENT <br /> Infectious waste shall be segregated from other waste. Containers used <br /> for containment of infectious waste shall be secured as to deny access <br /> to unauthorized persons and shall be marked with a prominent warning <br /> sign in English and Spanish . The warning sign shall be readily legible <br /> during daylight from a distance of at least 25 feet. <br /> Infectious waste , except for sharps , shall be contained in disposable <br /> plastic bags which are impervious to moisture and a strength sufficient <br /> to preclude ripping, tearing or bursting under normal conditions of <br /> usage and of handling the waste-filled bags . The bags will be securely <br /> tied to prevent leakage . Infectious sharps shall be contained for disposal <br /> in a leakproof, rigid , puncture-resistant container which are tightly <br /> lidded to preclude loss of contents . <br /> All bags used for containment and disposal of infectious waste shall be <br /> red in color and labeled with the words infectious waste . <br /> Infectious waste contained in disposable red bags shall be placed for <br /> storage or handling in a container with a lid. The container will be <br /> labeled with the words "infectious waste" or with the international <br /> biohazard symbol and the word "biohazard" on the lid and the sides of <br /> the container. The container shall have a red disposable bag in place <br /> at all times to be used as a liner to avoid contamination. <br /> This container shall be kept in the shower room "C" to be used only <br /> for infectious waste storage . <br /> TRANSPORTATION OF INFECTIOUS WASTE FROM ISOLATION ROOM <br /> Transportation of infectious waste from an Isolation Room to Shower <br /> Room "C" shall be accomplished in the following manner : <br /> 1 . Waste in tightly closed plastic bags shall be placed in a portable <br /> plastic barrel labeled with the words "Infectious Waste" on the <br /> lids and sides . <br /> 2. The barrels will then be transported to a locked room, Shower room <br /> licit , where the bags will be transferred to an infectious waste container. <br /> 3. The barrels will be washed in area provided in Shower room licit <br /> with a Premquat 990 solution , 1oz. /gal. ( 400ppm active agent) . <br />
