Spills can occur on environmental surfaces (such as floors or walls) or <br /> work surfaces (such as bench tops or cart tops), on or in equipment, <br /> on carpeting, and on reusable blood containers (such as bins, pails or <br /> coolers). Cleaning and disinfection should occur as soon as feasible <br /> after discovering surfaces are visibly contaminated. <br /> a. Blot the spill with an absorbent material such as a paper towel <br /> b. Dispose of absorbent material as biohazard waste (according to <br /> State definitions) <br /> c. Use an acceptable disinfectant to decontaminate the surface. <br /> d. Carpet cannot be effectively disinfected, only cleaned.
