d <br /> 5.2.2 EH&S will assist Managers and Supervisors as needed in implementing <br /> this procedure. <br /> 6.0 PROCEDURE <br /> 6.1 Department Managers and Supervisors will identify the materials from their <br /> operations that are medical waste and will manage these wastes in accordance <br /> with this procedure. <br /> 6.2 Medical wastes shall be contained at or near the point of generation in red, <br /> biohazardous waste bags. Bags will be covered except when material is being <br /> added to the bag. <br /> 6.3 Medical waste red bags shall be maintained in rigid, closed containers. <br /> Containers shall be labeled with the words Biohazardous or the international <br /> biohazard symbol on both the sides of the container. <br /> 6.4 Once filled, or when a process is complete, the biohazardous waste bags must be <br /> securely closed. Biohazardous waste must be removed from the facility in <br /> accordance with regulations through a licensed vendor. <br /> 6.5 Sharps, razor blades, needles, etc. <br /> 6.5.1 Medical sharps will be contained at or near the point of generation in rigid <br /> plastic biohazardous sharps containers. Sharps containers will be labeled <br /> with the words Biohazard and Sharps (or equivalent) and will be designed <br /> such that materials cannot be removed once placed inside. Once full,the <br /> containers shall be securely closed. Containers must be placed into the <br /> medical waste drum. <br /> 6.5.2 Nonmedical sharps, such as needles and razor blades which are not <br /> contaminated with human blood, etc., shall be stored in a rigid, closed <br /> container. Nonmedical sharps can be disposed of as Medical Devices. <br /> 6.6 Spill or releases of medical wastes must be immediately cleaned. <br /> 6.7 Pharmaceuticals shall be contained at or near point of generation in white <br /> pharmaceuticals container with secure lid. <br />
