Glossary <br />Also known as (AKA) <br />A name other than the full legal name by which a decedent might be identified. <br />Authorized Personnel <br />Company personnel including Office Managers; Embalmers and their equivalents (arrangers, <br />interns, etc.); Crematory Operators; General and Location Managers including PCC and Crematory <br />Managers; and Market -level Management and above. <br />Authorized Representative <br />The person who possesses authority under state or provincial law to authorize the cremation, <br />processing and disposition of a decedent. This may include the decedent, next-of-kin, an individual <br />who holds power of attorney or an individual previously designated by the decedent, depending on <br />applicable law and the circumstances of each particular case. <br />Bio -urn <br />A biodegradable urn that can be used as a container for cremated remains. <br />Bloodborne pathogens <br />Infectious or contagious diseases that can transfer to anyone who comes into contact with a <br />decedent's body fluids. <br />Cameras and Recording Devices <br />Any equipment that can store, transmit and/or play back a photograph or a visual or audio <br />recording, whether personally owned by a Company representative or the Company. This <br />includes cameras of any type, cellular telephones and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) with <br />cameras and/or audio recording capabilities. <br />Carepoint <br />A Company computer application used to gather, process, display and store decedent case data <br />including but not limited to decedent information, service arrangements and mortuary services. <br />Capacity <br />The maximum amount or number that can be received or contained. <br />Chain of Custody <br />The chronological documentation that shows the removal, transfer, storage, preparation and <br />disposition of a decedent, with authorized signatures affixed at each stage of custody to confirm the <br />identification of the decedent. <br />Combustible Devices <br />Devices implanted within a decedent's body that could cause explosions if left implanted during <br />cremation (see Defibrillator, Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator, and Pacemaker). <br />Version 2.1 Page 59 of 70 Revised: 07/10/2015 <br />Document Owner: Operations Support © 2015 SCI Funeral & Cemetery Purchasing Cooperative, Inc. <br />
