ft ft <br /> AMERICAN MEDICAL RESPONSE MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN <br /> 11.0 PROCEDURES FOR HANDLING RECOGNIZABLE HUMAN REMAINS, <br /> 11.1 AMR does not handle any recognizable Human Remains. The San Joaquin <br /> County Coroner will handle any human remains encountered at the scene of an <br /> accident or incident. <br /> 12.0 WASTE HANDLING AND STORAGE: <br /> 12.1 Engineering and work practice controls will be utilized to eliminate or <br /> minimize exposure to employees at AMR. Where occupational exposure <br /> remains after implementation of these controls, Personal Protective Equipment <br /> (PPE) shall be used. At AMR, the following engineering controls will be <br /> utilized: <br /> 12.2 Soiled first-aid equipment and bandages will be placed into red bags marked <br /> "Biohazard". <br /> 12.3 Expired Drugs will be sent to the EMS training facility or to AMR's Training <br /> Division (NCTI) for use. Expired drugs that are not sent to the EMS training <br /> facility or AMR's Training Division (NCTI)will be shipped to Pharmalink. All <br /> expired drugs will be recycled. Expired Narcotics will be disposed of by <br /> approved DOJ standards. <br /> ® Pharmalink, Inc. <br /> 11211 69th Street N <br /> Largo, FL 33773 <br /> (800) 257-3527 <br /> 12.4 Biohazard bags and sharps containers will be stored in approved drums with <br /> the required labels and stored in the secured Biohazard Waste Area for pick-up <br /> by the Materials Coordinator and disposal by Sacramento Bay Medical Waste <br /> Inc. Approved signage will be on or adjacent to the exterior of the entry doors, <br /> on entry doors, gates or lids. The signs will be in both English and Spanish. <br /> 12.5 The controls will be examined and maintained or replaced on a regular <br /> schedule. The schedule for reviewing the effectiveness of the controls will <br /> be to inspect the Biohazard Waste Area on a monthly inspection schedule. <br /> Inspection logs are kept in the Operations Department. <br /> 12.6 Hand washing facilities shall be made available to the employees who handle <br /> blood or other potentially infectious materials. Cal/OSHA requires that these <br /> facilities be readily accessible after incurring an exposure.
