AMERICAN MEDICAL RESPONSE MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN <br /> All medical waste will be contained separately from other waste at the <br /> • point of generation. <br /> • Soiled medical waste containers will be cleaned in the following <br /> manner: <br /> ➢ Containers will be sprayed with disinfectant. <br /> ➢ Containers will be washed with detergent. <br /> ➢ Containers will be allowed to air dry. <br /> STORAGE AREA: <br /> The area at AMR San Joaquin Operations is in the basement at the Fresno <br /> Operations The storage room is kept looked locked at all times with <br /> access limited to Managers, AOC's and Managers. A daily drop off barrel is kept <br /> outside of the locked room. This barrel is sorted daily, then transferred into the <br /> locked room. <br /> 13.0 WORK AREA RESTRICTIONS: <br /> 13.1 In work areas where there is a reasonable likelihood of exposure to blood or <br /> other potentially infectious materials, employees are not to eat, drink, apply <br /> cosmetics or lip balm, smoke or handle contact lenses. Food and beverages <br /> are not to be kept in areas where blood or other potentially infectious <br /> materials are present. <br /> 13.2 All procedures will be conducted in a manner that will minimize splashing, <br /> spraying, splattering and generation of droplets of blood or other potentially <br /> infectious materials. Methods that will be employed at American Medical <br /> Response to accomplish this are the use of Personal Protective Equipment, <br /> proper disposal and proper placement of contaminated articles into approved <br /> plastic bags. <br /> 14.0 RESPONSIBILITY: <br /> 14.1 Materials Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the equipment that <br /> has become contaminated with blood or other potentially infectious <br /> materials shall be examined prior to servicing and shall be decontaminated <br /> as necessary. <br /> 14.2 San Joaquin County has the responsibility to ensure that all <br /> Personal Protective Equipmenf used by the employee is provided <br /> without cost to employee.
