INFECTION CONTROL <br /> 1. Disposal of Wastes- Infectious <br /> a. All used sharps are considered infectious. These include: <br /> 1. Lancets, <br /> 2. Capillary tubes <br /> 3. Needles <br /> b. Sharps disposal <br /> 1. Used sharps are disposed of by putting them in red plastic infectious waste <br /> containers. <br /> b. The containers, when full, are autoclaved and then disposed of in <br /> the regular trash. <br /> 2. Disposal of Wastes - Non-Infectious <br /> a. Urine Samples <br /> 1. May be disposed of by pouring down the sink. <br /> a. Sink is to be rinsed throughly after each use and cleaned well at the <br /> end of the day. <br /> 2. Urine collecting cups are disposed of into the trash containers. <br /> b. Wastes generated by examinations and used products are not considered <br /> infectious wastes and are simply plastic-bagged and put into the locked trash <br /> container. <br /> 3. Surface Cleaning <br /> a. Counter tops and other flat surfaces <br /> 1. Kept clean with Septisol or alcohol on a regular basis. <br /> 2. In the case of infectious contamination, a solution of household bleach <br /> prepared fresh in dilution of 1/10 shall be used to clean surfaces where <br /> spills of blood or body fluids have occurred. <br /> -M.1- <br /> REVISED <br />
