f) Waste which is hazardous only because it is omprised of human surgery <br /> 's <br /> specimens or tissues which have been fixed i formaldehyde or other fixatives,or <br /> only because the waste is contaminated thro gh contact with, or having <br /> previously contained,trace amounts of the therapeutic agents including, but <br /> not limited to,gloves,disposable gowns,to els and intravenous solution bags <br /> and attached tubing which are empty. <br /> g) Waste which is hazardous only because it is omprised of pharmaceuticals. <br /> Disposable materials containing non-fluid blood(e.g. dress ngs, gauze,cotton rolls,drapes,and <br /> articles with small amounts of dried blood or other body fl ids)do not have to be disposed of as <br /> biohazardous waste.Non-medical waste may not be stored in any container or bag designated for <br /> I <br /> storing medical waste(e.g. sharps container or red"Bioh rd"bag). <br /> Sharps Waste Generated in this office consists of but is I of limited to: <br /> Hypodermic needles, hypodermic needles with syringes, bt des and needles with attached <br /> tubing,syringes contaminated with biohazardous waste,ac puncture needles and root canal files, <br /> dental burs,broken dental instruments,endo instruments, atrix bands, wedges,ortho brackets, <br /> bands,and wires. <br /> Containment and Labeling of Sharps Waste <br /> Sharps waste shall be contained in sharps containers(rigid puncture resistant, leak resistant <br /> when sealed and Labeled with the words"Sharps Waste", he international biohazard symbol and <br /> the word"BIOHAZARD." Full sharps containers must be aped closed or tightly lidded. <br /> I <br /> Containment and Labeling of Regulated, Non-Sh rps Waste <br /> A. Waste must be contained in red biohazard bags(bags ust meet specified strength test)and <br /> bags must be Labeled with the words Biohazardous to and the international biohazard <br /> symbol. <br /> B. Red bags must be placed in rigid containers for storag handling or transport and bags must <br /> be tied prior to transport. <br /> C. Rigid containers must be leak resistant,have tight fitti g covers and be kept clean and in <br /> good repair. <br /> D. Labeled with the international biohazard symbol and the words BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE. <br /> Handling Requirements Applicable to all Regula d Waste <br /> Regulated Waste: <br /> • May not be removed from the red bag until treate and not landfilled before being <br /> treated. <br /> • Must be contained separately from other wastes( azardous waste,radioactive waste)at <br /> the point of origin. <br /> Regulated Waste Storage Time <br /> Full sharps containers may be stored for seven days(nei er the temperature or accumulation <br /> time limit is specified.)The following storage requireme is apply to all other regulated,non- <br /> sharps waste: <br /> 2 <br />
