PUBLIC NOTICE of Public Comment Period and Public Hearing On the Intent to Deny a Permit to Operate a Facility for * * * H A Z A R D O U S W A S T E at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory - Site 300 Public Notice No. CA2890090002 The Region IX Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) , requests public comment upon a proposed PERMIT DENIAL for operation of two hazardous waste landfills by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The specific sites of this proposed action are the two landfills, Pits 1 and 7, at the Site 300 land disposal facility, which is located five (5) miles south of Tracy, California on Corral Hollow Road, in Alameda and San Joaquin Counties.. Status. This proposed PERMIT DENIAL would terminate Interim Status at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory - Site 300 for continued disposal of hazardous waste in the landfills in accordance with the rules and regulations adopted pursuant to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) , 42 USC 6901 et seq. The basis for this tentative decision is Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's withdrawal of its RCRA Part B permit application for the landfills at Site 300 and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's decision to cease operation of and to close the landfills. If this proposed PERMIT DENIAL is made final and there is no appeal, disposal of hazardous waste at the RCRA landfills must cease and procedures for closure of these units will commence. The ADMINISTRATIVE RECORD for the proposed PERMIT DENIAL, which includes the APPLICATION, FACT SHEET, all other information sent by the applicant as part of the application, and other supporting documents is available for public review and inspection.
