Mr. Robert 0. Godwin -3- 15 September 1987
still necessary to show the overall investigation plan and specific end
points which will then lead to cleanup efforts.
As discussed above, we accept the evidence that metals are naturally
occurring in ground water at' Site 300, but request data summaries for
arsenic, chromium, lead, and selenium, and a continuing trend analysis in
future monitoring reports.
4. Pit 6 - We have received the Brown and Caldewll report and will review it
in the next two months. At that time, we can discuss the proposed changes
in the monitoring program.
We have not yet received four other requests made in the 19 June 1987 letter
from Mr. Ken Landau. These are requests for work plans and time schedules for:
1 ) investigation of potential soil and ground water contamination at Building
819, 2) soil sampling in a former discharge ditch at Building 879, 3) additio' nal
sampling work and data at various former drywell locations, and 4) data from
soil borings at Building 815 where TCE was found in the regional aquifer in May
1987. In addition, your July 1987 letter reports that high explosives also have
been found in wells at Building 815, but states the data will not be submitted
until 30 October 1987 or later. Such a time frame is unacceptable as is the
long delay in submitting the TCE data from Building 815 which is a new problem
you have known about for at least three months. You are required to submit all
available data on soil and ground water contamination at Building 815 by 29
September 1987. 1 am also reiterating my request for the other three out-
standing items by 6 October 1987.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916) 361-5676.
WENDY L. COHEN
Project Engineer
WLC:kwc
cc: Mr. James T. Davis, U.S. Department of Energy, Oakland
Mr. Anand Rege, DHS, TSCD, Berkeley -
San Joaquin Local Health District, Stockton
Mr. Eugene Draney, LLNL, Livermore
Mr. Richard Ragaini, LLNL, Livermore
