The facility is currently ,urging water from the air conditift system to one of the
` surface impoundments. The water is soon evaporated leaving both of the
impoundments dry. This discharge will soon cease because a water recycling system
is to be installed. The impoundments are irrigated regularly using sprinklers so that
the asbestos in the sediments will not become airborne.
After the facility tour, a meeting was held to discuss the comments that h en made
regarding the SWAT proposal submitted for J-M by Kleinfelder. Response to 2 41989
comments were favorable, and will be forthcoming.
EWRCWAENTAt HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
INSPECTION SUMMARY:
The facility has several old landfills and two dry surface impoundments. The landfills
have been closed with two feet of soil. Only one impoundment is still receiving waste
water, and this discharge will be ceased as soon as the recycling system is
implemented. Closure requirements for the landfills and surface impoundments will
be contingent upon the results of the SWAT.
JEFFREY K. TUCKER
Project Engineer
JKT
