WASTE DISCHARGE REQUIREMENTS -3-
JOHNS-MANVILLE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, INCORPORATED
FORMOSA PLASTICS, USA
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
WASTES AND THEIR CLASSIFICATION
14. The Discharger has discharged wastes containing an average of 7.8% friable asbestos for
disposal in surface impoundments and in landfills. These wastes are classified as
"hazardous" under Title 22 of CCR. However, because these wastes do not pose a threat
to ground water quality, Section 25143.7 of the Health and Safety Code permits their
disposal in any landfill which has WDRs that specifically permit the discharge, provided
that the wastes are handled and disposed of in accordance with other applicable state and
federal statutes and regulations.
15. The surface impoundments accepted approximately 8000 cu. yds. of waste
per year. When nearly full, the impoundments were dredged, and the material
placed in one of the landfills. This occurred about every 2 years. The landfills contain
the following approximate amounts of material:
Landfill Volume of waste
A 125.000 cu. \,cls.
8 47.000 cu. yds.
G 47.000 cu. yds.
ll 23.000 cu. vds.
L
1.- 24.000 cu. yds.
G :36.000 cu. vds.
H 22.000 cu. yCis.
I 27,000 cu. yds.
J 55.000 cu. yds.
K 77.000 cu. yds.
L
* sections E and L overlap and no determination of each one's capacity has been made. Together they
contain approximately 38,000 cu. yds. of waste.
