Sf un (Calif.) Record Sat., Oct. 11, 1975
.egal Rural Lodi
Dump Will Be Shu
A dump that the state says has been operating illegally
near the Mokelumne River will be closed as the result of can-
nery waste dumping that attracted flies and attention.
The site at 18012 Cluff, Lodi, is operated by Sanitary City
Disposal Co., which handles garbage disposal for the City of
Lodi and from other sources.
Steve Macaulay, engineer for the Central Valley Regional
Water Quality Control Board, said Dario DeBenedetti of the
Sanitary City company has promised to cease using the prop
erty. which is in the Mokelumne River flood plain, as a dump
site.
Macaulay said DeBenedetti told him the site has been used
for disposal of solid waste for several years with no objection
by county regulatory agencies.
Last Friday, tomato waste was dumped on the property
and was not disced into the ground, reportedly because of
breakdown of mechanical equipment, Macaulay said.
The result was a fly and odor problem, he.added.
Macaulay said the company has been asked to submit a ti.
metable for closing the operation. He said he anticipates the
state will require the large amount of solid waste on the prop-
erty to be thoroughly covered with dirt.
He said the company does not have a use permit from the
county or a permit from the San Joaquin Local Health District
to 2M2Le thus Al2.
