The site is located south of Stockton
(see Figure 1) near the intersection of Wolfe Road and Manthey
Road in San Joaquin County, California.
Upon initial arrival on the site on S April 1985 , we noted that
the surface soil was white, loose, and dry; almost a powdery
dust. Afterdrilling approximately two feet, a sample was taken
and piece rof asbestos pipe was retrieved in the sampler. At
thii point, a "realized that the site was probably located on an
old landfill that consisted of asbestos debris, including pieces
of asbestos pipe. The areal extent of the asbestos fill was
estimated to be approximately three acres. The PacTel lease area
is completely within this fill (see Figure 2) . The vertical i
extent of the asbestos at the site is approximately three feet as
determined by our test boring and other shallow hand
excavations. The Geotechnical Engineer at the site decided to
continue drilling on the outside chance that the site might still
be used for the mobile access antenna. A log of the boring is
attached as Figure 3.
On 9 April 1985 authorization was received by Mr. Walker to test
the surface material at the site for asbestos content. A sample
of this material was sent to BAL Corporation in Richmond,
California and checked for asbestos and other fibers. The
results , obtained on 1S April 1985 , indicated the material to
consist of 10% to 20% asbestos (chrysotile) , and 80% to 90%
calcite.
i
NOW
i
Address: 420M SacramtnW CA 95842 • Sacramento Counhn 491161 969-6883
631 s DrWe.
