The
residence is within 1,000 feet of the boundary of a disposal area. This residence is designed with a
' passive methane gas mitigation system located below the floor slab with a vent to the outside, along with
three methane gas sensors.
' 2.0 POLICY
' The methane mitigation system will need to be maintained and operated in a manner that
assures compliance with regulatory agencies.
• Residents shall be instructed and trained on how to monitor the readings and what to do in case
of an alarm. Practice a home exit plan with the residences (Section 7.0).
• A copy of this O&M plan shall be available for all residents and owners of the property.
Residents shall be familiar with its contents and will be trained in operating the system.
' In case of a problem with the system, appropriate corrective actions need to be conducted
immediately.
' 3.0 DESCRIPTION OF SYSTEM OPERATION
The passive methane mitigation system allows any build up of gases beneath the slab floor to be vented
to the atmosphere and to act as a barrier between the subfloor and the living space. Any possible gas
produced from the nearby disposal area that raises to beneath the slab of the residence will enter the
gravel subfloor. This gas within the gravel may then enter the horizontal pipes located beneath the slab
within the gravel, and travel through the pipe, up the vent, and exit out the pipe protruding from the
roof of the residence. One sensor is located within the vent to detect any methane gas migration up the
vent. Two additional sensors, two located in the residence and one in the garage are to detect any
LODI ■ SACRAMENTO ■ MODESTO
ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION 902 Industrial Way,Lodi,Califomia 95240 ■209.367.3101 0 209369.4228 fax 0 www,noanlerson.com
